Government Health and Nutrition Research Is Worthless

A study by the University of South Carolina has determined that one of the major sources of information used to formulate national policy on disease prevention and nutritional guidelines is not credible. The methods used by the Centers for Disease Control and Department of Agriculture were flawed. The data collected was not credible.

This criticism was aimed at the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the largest collection of  health information in the country. The survey asks adults and children to recall what they ate and drank during the previous 24 hours. It is the main data source for assessing connections between health, diet and nutrition in the United States.

All of the government’s rules, guidelines and recommendations based on this data is now suspect. No wonder people who follow the government’s advice on what to eat do not get healthier.

Genetically modified corn, soy and salmon – what’s next?

More than 85 scientists have signed a statement that there is no scientific consensus about GMO safety. The statement was a response to GMO industry leaders’ claims of a consensus that GMO crops are safe for the environment, humans and animals. These scientists wanted to make clear there is no such consensus about the safety of GMO crops and that many questions remain unanswered. They went on to state that so many studies have either not been done or have been actively suppressed by the GMO industry that there is no way to confirm the safety of  GMO products at this time.

And Mexico has banned the planting of any GMO corn in the country. A federal judge issued the ruling, citing imminent harm to the environment. The ruling also banned the sale of any genetically modified corn in Mexico.

Farms in Kaua’i, Hawaii now have to disclose the presence of GMO crops. The Kaua’i County council passed the law on October 16 by a 6-1 vote. The new law also requires a 500 foot buffer zone near schools, homes, hospitals and other facilities.

Remember that whole food health does not include GMO’s!

Updates On Our Microbial Partners

There is more evidence from Emory University showing the beneficial effects on health of some gut bacteria. Lactobacilli bacteria were shown to regulate intestinal stem cells in two different animal species. This results in healthier epithelial cells and improved gut health.

Other research has shown that gut bacteria influences colon cancer. Some strains of bacteria protected from the development of colon cancer. Other bacteria promoted colon cancer development.

These are even more reasons to eat a healthy whole food diet to keep the friendly bacteria within us well nourished so that they can keep up healthy.
